1. Hughes Concrete Ltd. manufactures precast concrete products by bringing in quantities of raw materials and processing them into goods for the drainage market. It acknowledges that in carrying out these processes its operations have a direct bearing on the well-being of the local environment. Therefore it has identified its influence on emissions, energy use and waste, and has committed itself to the following :-
• to comply with all applicable UK legislation and regulations. • to prevent airborne and water-borne pollution in all forms wherever possible. • to continue to manufacture its products using non-harmful raw materials wherever possible. • to minimise the production of waste and to dispose of such in a responsible and legal manner. • to use energy efficiently and to strive for reductions in its use. • to listen to and respond to communications from all those affected by its operations. • to improve its performance in any areas of recycling that may be appropriate. • to encourage the active involvement of all employees in the identification, implementation, and improvement of these activities. |
2. To further these aims, Hughes Concrete will audit its procedures for environmental management annually. This audit will include a review of current manufacturing processes and procedures, and an updating of the environmental aspects attached to each process.
3. Hughes Concrete Ltd. will carry out a full environmental impact plan before installing any new equipment.
4. Hughes Concrete's aim is to instigate and operate an Environmental Management System which will be effective to the requirements of BS EN ISO 14001.
